“Whether poet, grocer, peasant or king:
humans, all slightly damaged in the beginning,
tiny blemishes on a big, smiling apple,
the seven flaws: seven brown stains.
Only but the angels are flawless -
Oh, what a shame, our forefather’s done spoilt!
Where into our foremothers they knocked,
perhaps that’s where the decay set in.”
(Krisztián Peer)
Are the seven deadly sins truly sins, or just a collection of character flows we all possess, that we have to accept and live with? The production deals with the concept of guilt, isolation, understanding and accepting ourselves and the compulsive need to seek out perfection. Besides Dante’s Inferno in Ádám Nádasdy’s translation and Krisztián Peer’s poetic texts, the creators have used several sources, including documents and other texts - reimagining and recontextualizing the trinity of sin-punishment-victim.
